ONSDAG: White nights

  1. HELLO DEAR SWEET READERS. Above, you will find me pensively enjoying my sour strap on Melodee's rocking chair.
  2. Like Liz Lemon, I forget that it is the middle of the week because I am at home being antisocial (except Liz forgets because she is producing The Girlie Show and not because she is being antisocial).
  3. Most of my coherence is lost in the crevasse of Soviet-American tension.
  4. Referring to fictional characters by their first names as though I know them? Drawing metaphors from historical events that occurred decades ago? Possibly incorrectly using the term metaphor but not bothering to change it because I can't really think of anything else at the moment? DELUSIONAL?
  5. I wanted to do a vibes post but I can't be bothered. But here's something equally if not more awesome: Stanley Kubrick took secret photos on subways. I enjoy the vibes of these photos. Maybe this is a vibes post. Happy hump day.

SÖNDAG: si c'était toi

Hello.
J'ai choisi ce titre puisque cet album suited my mood today.
Aujourd'hui j'ai appris que meme si je me baigne pendant deux heures, mes cheveux can persist in being oily si je ne les lave pas.

Fredag: Pathetic Fallacy

Contrary to popular opinion, rain and thunderstorms warm the cockles of my cold heart. Winter is my summer and I prefer rain in my boots to sand in my shoes.

Talking about the weather, what is this a conversation? No. It is an egotistical monologue in the form of an unsuspecting blog. You may do nothing now, I have you in my power.

Now, we move on to the main event for this evening, drum roll please...

FRIDAY CRAFTERNOONS
Disclaimer: I am not a professional seamstress, I taught myself how to sew. I will not teach you how to sew, but I can teach you what I know.

For the epic conclusion of the first instalment of The Adventures of the Leather Jacket and its Eventual Transformation into a Leather Skirt

Basically, I made the skirt. I BOUGHT THE NEEDLES I NEEDED AND I MADE THE SKIRT. Exciting things don't happen like this often. I will also need to reevaluate my life.

In any case, this is what I wore today:

This was literally all I was wearing today. In the cold, and the rain, and the sleet, and the snow. I also wore gloves today, navy blue 50s gloves with little bows on the end. My tights are also wine red, you can't see this.

So, now that you have seen the little nugget of gold that is my jacket turned skirt, I will give you a couple more juicy tips about sewing with leather:

1. A leather sewing needle is the best because the leather needle has a chisel edge that cuts through the leather.

2. Also, I would advise that you ask your local haberdashery specialist for the best thread to sew leather with. This is mostly because my thread kept snapping and I thought to myself, "Dangflabbit! If only I bought special leather thread!" So kids, listen to Aunty Allison, she knows what she's talking about.

3. I would advise when you put your skirt together, if there's an area with too much leather, cut it out. Or else, your sewing machine will hate you and tell you things like FOR SAFETY PURPOSES TURN OFF MACHINE AND RESOLVE PROBLEM. No, my sewing machine is not a robot, it's just very smart.

4. Try and compromise with sewing techniques because sometimes the material will make it really hard for you to do the things you want, this is a note for amateurs, like me.

JUICY DETAIL:
I cut in between the buckle detail on the former waistband of the leather jacket. This has become my skirt waistband's buckle above my zip, because it was hard to sew the zip into the waist bad too.

Be brave with chopping and changing! Also, be creative with seeing the potential in the leather jacket.

Now I set you free my young prodigies, go forth, and transform ugly leather jackets into beautiful leather skirts. Go!

Finally, some other outfits from my rather sad concluding week of first semester at university:

Turtlenecks + Monochrome + Denim + Red Lipstick = Angst

Colour blocking with mustard. This is why I am so happy.
(Another golden moment, what would the world be without me.)

Anyway, having assured myself that I have taken up your time sufficiently I shall take my leave.

Over and out,

This Little Piggy.

ONSDAG: Stretching a cat

  1. My attempts at monochromatic dressing, in my humble, humble opinion, have been an EXCELLENT SUCCESS. My attempt at a thumbs-up has, however, gone astray.
  2. There are eyes on my legs.
  3. Let us just confirm that I do not participate in animal cruelty. I just like picking cats up when their hindlegs attempt to stay grounded (although that may constitute cruelty... although that is not cruel that is just completely adorable because THEY GET SO LONG).
  4. To brighten your hump days, here is my beehive. Yes, that is Ron Swanson watching over me.

SÖNDAG: I AM DISAPPOINTED BY THE FEELING OF WAKING UP NEXT TO YOU.

I know I warned you to watch out because of the supposed awesomeness of my outfits from the previous week. However, they were poorly documented and this is the only tolerable surviving evidence:

I wore flowers in my hair a twice this week. It was supposed to make the world seem cheerier. However, I soon realised that it was not as effective as I had imagined because I did not know they were there for most of the time.

Also today I saw Cat Steven's/Yusuf Islam's musical Moonshadow. It was beautiful. When I was in high school I was greatly surprised when I learnt that not everybody knows who he is, which is a waste of talent.

And before I forget, there is something else that is under-appreciated and enjoyable you might want to experience.

À bientôt mes amours

FREDAG: A fleeting beating of hearts

Friends of These Little Pigs,

I assume (rather narcissistically) that you are reading this because you take an interest in my life. I would tell you to get a hobby, but I really like the attention.

So this was my week in pictures:

Horribly unfortunate face, I know. But I say, Proclaim your Disasters and Mishaps and no one can touch you. Come at me, bro. I feel nothing.

This is my outfit for today, the spectrum of colours delight me greatly and I hope they delight you too.
You can't see my lime green spotty socks, but I wish you could.

This is me concentrating while eating a can of corn at the vegetarian cafe, because all I had was tuna and corn, and tuna does not grow on trees.
I applaud you if you kept up with that thought process.

Also, I lied, a week is not three days.

Also, as you have noticed, haircut! I did it myself, so this is your turn to applaud me. Alas I look like this, c'est la vie.

Also, to my great delight, the Genius app on iTunes has produced an incredible playlist which you should listen to. Tell me you love it, or I may just die.

Also, I say also a lot.

I am also eating a chocolate muffin and dark chocolate simultaneously, so much for dieting.

Anyway,

Over and out,

This little piggy.

ONSDAG: I am just a speck of dust inside a giant's eye

  1. Here are two outfits I wore this week.
  2. I feel like these outfits should be put behind glass that should only be broken in case of emergency because I've worn them so many times.
  3. I wish I had a tripod. Then all of my first-world camera-portability picture-aesthetics problems would be solved.
  4. Also, the lighting is very erratic in my house. Also, I hate flash.
  5. Here are some photos that I wish I could physically be in, or be the subject of, or be dressed like the subject of... or just emanate:

2. queen of awesome, Beyonce (Countdown)
3. Anjelica Huston by Bob Richardson
4. Jil Sander S/S 2012
5. Down With Love (2003 dir. Peyton Reed)

SÖNDAG: And this is the room one afternoon I knew I could love you.

So, this week, I went off taking pictures in public and so instead here are some pictures of me before I left to go out this weekend:

Also I should apologise for my severely awkward posing. It has made me determined to start taking pictures in public again.

This is my makeup from Saturday.
I used sticky tape to make the edges of the eye shadow sharp.
I went to an African-themed trivia night.
Note that my outfit was entirely lacking in any relevance to Africa.
Also trivia nights are the best fun in the world and I am considering committing myself to leading a life of venturing from one trivia night to another.

This is my hairdo from tonight.
I have developed a temporary obsession with halo braids.
As well as this: FUN MUSIC IS FUN
Also I have some REALLY good outfits planned for the coming week, so watch out!
Goodnight xoxoxoxoxo

FREDAG: You met me yesterday, but today you get to know me

It's incredibly difficult to believe a week has gone by, yet here we are at the end of another week, on the best day of the week - Friday, or Fredag as they say in Sweden.

I did not think I could be bothered posting at outfit post today considering... But then again...

I thought I was crying
But it was just raining,
The sky was blue,
And so was I.

FRIDAY CRAFTERNOONS
Disclaimer: I am not a professional seamstress, I taught myself how to sew. I will not teach you how to sew, but I can teach you what I know.

In this part of the show, we look at what spunky creations Allison gets up to.
Kids, please don't trying this at home.

How to turn your Leather Jacket into a Leather Circle skirt

What you need:

One extremely oversized 80s leather jacket

I picked a pattern out of my 50s pattern book which became the pattern which I used as a guideline to cut out the leather

Then, I cut the waistband of the leather jacket off to serve as the waistband of the skirt. It has this really cool buckle detail which gives it a bit of a bondage vibe going. Haters gonna hate, but in all seriousness- I am extremely pumped for this amazing skirt that will eventuate from this.

The thing about this project is that you need to maximize material. If the traditional method of pattern cutting out does not work find other ways to chop and change in order to make it fit.

At this point (left), I have cut off the sleeves of the jacket and cut out the lining so that there aren't any excess bits dangling around.

I know I skipped a few bits but this is what your chop and change skirt will look like if you're really smart about it.

(The picture is upside down)

Look, I can't really tell you how to make this skirt because everyone's leather jacket will probably be different but bottom line is you have to use yer noggin. Because people who don't use their noggins will forget they don't have a leather point needle and start a project they cannot finish.

Lesson for today: Obtain leather point needle for leather sewing purposes. You will need it.

Tune in for Part II, when I actually have equipment to finish this.

See you later, alligators.

Over and out,

This little piggy.

ONSDAG: Cave-o-sapien! You look like the sunrise!

  1. Here are some clothes I've worn.
  2. I suppose my unwillingness to write a proper paragraph means that I will be DOCUMENTING MY YEAR IN LISTS. How exciting.
  3. Corduroy makes the world go around. I am sure the other two little pigs will testify to this.  ('Testify!', their voices echo across the blogosphere.)
  4. Here are some things I have decided to swear off: overuse of capitals because people think I'm screaming at them when I am just being erratic and excited and possibly extra friendly; overuse of 'like' and 'omg', because I am actually That Internet Girl who combines the lot in a huge OMG-LIKE-OMG-fest; touching my face because apparently that transfers viruses closer to my airways which leads me to my final one; being sick.
  5. The whole posing-for-a-photo thing is still a work in progress.

SÖNDAG: I was made of atoms in the atmosphere and this is what I wore:

This is my houndstooth dress.
For my hair I made two French plaits and then made the hair that was not directly attached to my head into two buns.
If I had worn my hair like this in high school, people would have made cinnamon bun/Princess Leia jokes.
I know this is true because it has happened to me.
Franchement, ces blagues etaient un petit peu amusants.

This is my backless dress.
It is fun to wear.
The first time I wore it (before I even left the house) the button at the back came off because I coughed and it had been suffocatingly tight.
Donc, je ne l'ai pas remplacé.

And this is a dress I only tried on in a store where they played a lot of Prince.
Je vous rencontrerai plus tard.

FREDAG: Debut

They say first impressions are everything.

And I say, to quote Frank Woodley: "For a really great night, let's all simultaneously LOWER OUR EXPECTATIONS."

Now that I am sure you expect no eloquent commentaries on life from my little nook of this space on the interweb - I will proceed with introductions.

This is Allison.

Allison likes wearing clothes.

Don't we all.

This was Allison's week in clothes. Have a lovely weekend everyone, and Thank God it's Fredag.

Over and out,

This little piggy.

Postscript:
I realize many of these are close-ups of my face. Enjoy what you can, we're working on it.
