Fredag: Pathetic Fallacy

Contrary to popular opinion, rain and thunderstorms warm the cockles of my cold heart. Winter is my summer and I prefer rain in my boots to sand in my shoes.

Talking about the weather, what is this a conversation? No. It is an egotistical monologue in the form of an unsuspecting blog. You may do nothing now, I have you in my power.

Now, we move on to the main event for this evening, drum roll please...

FRIDAY CRAFTERNOONS
Disclaimer: I am not a professional seamstress, I taught myself how to sew. I will not teach you how to sew, but I can teach you what I know.

For the epic conclusion of the first instalment of The Adventures of the Leather Jacket and its Eventual Transformation into a Leather Skirt

Basically, I made the skirt. I BOUGHT THE NEEDLES I NEEDED AND I MADE THE SKIRT. Exciting things don't happen like this often. I will also need to reevaluate my life.

In any case, this is what I wore today:

This was literally all I was wearing today. In the cold, and the rain, and the sleet, and the snow. I also wore gloves today, navy blue 50s gloves with little bows on the end. My tights are also wine red, you can't see this.

So, now that you have seen the little nugget of gold that is my jacket turned skirt, I will give you a couple more juicy tips about sewing with leather:

1. A leather sewing needle is the best because the leather needle has a chisel edge that cuts through the leather.

2. Also, I would advise that you ask your local haberdashery specialist for the best thread to sew leather with. This is mostly because my thread kept snapping and I thought to myself, "Dangflabbit! If only I bought special leather thread!" So kids, listen to Aunty Allison, she knows what she's talking about.

3. I would advise when you put your skirt together, if there's an area with too much leather, cut it out. Or else, your sewing machine will hate you and tell you things like FOR SAFETY PURPOSES TURN OFF MACHINE AND RESOLVE PROBLEM. No, my sewing machine is not a robot, it's just very smart.

4. Try and compromise with sewing techniques because sometimes the material will make it really hard for you to do the things you want, this is a note for amateurs, like me.

JUICY DETAIL:
I cut in between the buckle detail on the former waistband of the leather jacket. This has become my skirt waistband's buckle above my zip, because it was hard to sew the zip into the waist bad too.

Be brave with chopping and changing! Also, be creative with seeing the potential in the leather jacket.

Now I set you free my young prodigies, go forth, and transform ugly leather jackets into beautiful leather skirts. Go!

Finally, some other outfits from my rather sad concluding week of first semester at university:

Turtlenecks + Monochrome + Denim + Red Lipstick = Angst

Colour blocking with mustard. This is why I am so happy.
(Another golden moment, what would the world be without me.)

Anyway, having assured myself that I have taken up your time sufficiently I shall take my leave.

Over and out,

This Little Piggy.
